YOUTH GROUPS SEEK P10K AID FOR STUDENTS
SEVERAL youth organizations on Monday asked President Rodrigo Duterte to provide P10,000 financial aid to students who were affected by the Covid19 pandemic.
SEVERAL youth organizations on Monday asked President Rodrigo Duterte to provide P10,000 financial aid to students who were affected by the Covid19 pandemic.
Led by Student Aid Network, the groups called for assistance for students who suffered amid the implementation of distance learning.
“As long as no urgent attention is given to House Bill 9494 (Emergency Student Aid and Relief Bill) and other ayuda bills, Filipinos will have to suffer even longer,” said Student Aid Network Convenor John Louis Gonzales.
“We call on the Duterte government to prioritize ayuda bills as urgent and heed the people’s right to education under the worsening pandemic,” Gonzales added.
He said that the government should provide all forms of support to the education sector, especially in preparing for the gradual and safe reopening of classes.
“We carry the call for immediate relief in the form of P10,000 student aid along with scientific and comprehensive medical solutions against Covid19,” he said.
Meanwhile, the College Editors Guild of the Philippines stressed that campus publications have stopped publishing.
CEGP claimed that student journalists have to find their own resources just to continue their publication.
“In such a time when the worth of the Filipino students is diminished, our function in society as members of the press is to fight for what is right,” it added.
