VALENZUELA INTENSIFIES MEASURES AGAINST CHILD MALNUTRITION

/ 24 March 2025

THE CITY Government of Valenzuela, under Mayor Wes Gatchalian, has launched an initiative to tackle child malnutrition by deploying seven Chikiting Food Patrol vehicles.

The vehicles, handed over to the City Social Welfare and Development Office, will deliver nutritious meals directly to children in need, enhancing the city’s commitment to improving public health.

The Chikiting Food Patrol project, costing ₱2.3 million, is funded by incentives from Valenzuela’s recent 2023 Seal of Good Local Governance award. Valenzuela earned the award for its outstanding governance and services, with the funds now being used to boost community health programs, particularly for children.

The vehicles will be deployed across various barangays to fight malnutrition. As part of the Enhanced Citywide K to 6 Feeding Program, the initiative provides balanced, nutritious meals to children from kindergarten to grade 6.

Mayor Gatchalian emphasized the significance of the patrol vehicles during the turnover ceremony, stating, “This initiative is a testament to our commitment to the health and well-being of our residents, particularly our children.”

The Chikiting Food Patrol vehicles are expected to make a significant impact on areas with high malnutrition rates and raise awareness about the issue in the community. These vehicles will distribute healthy food prepared by CSWDO staff, ensuring the nutritional needs of children are met.

This project underscores Valenzuela City’s proactive approach to social issues, focusing on improving the health and nutrition of its younger population for a healthier, more prosperous future.
