SENATOR LAUDS DEPED’S DEPLOYMENT OF 15,000 PRINCIPALS
SENATOR Sherwin Gatchalian praised the Department of Education for deploying 15,000 principals to public schools this year, calling it a crucial step in strengthening school management and improving student performance.
In a statement, Gatchalian highlighted the importance of strong, school-based leadership.
“With 24,916, or 55% of our public schools, currently without a principal, these schools are missing out on the critical leadership that could significantly improve student outcomes,” he said.
Gatchalian pledged to work closely with DepEd to ensure the recruitment and deployment process is based on merit and competency. He stressed that schools lacking permanent leadership should be prioritized to address long-standing gaps in school management.
The senator also called for the establishment of clear career paths for aspiring school heads.
“It is equally important to provide continuous training and professional development so that principals are equipped to meet the challenges of their role,” Gatchalian added.
He noted the impact well-trained principals can have on a school’s overall performance and emphasized that ensuring school leaders have the necessary skills and resources is vital to improving education outcomes.
Gatchalian reaffirmed his commitment to supporting DepEd’s initiatives and policies aimed at enhancing the quality of education in the country, especially through effective school leadership and management.
