SENATOR BATS FOR ADOPT-A-LIBRARY PROGRAM
SENATOR Grace Poe is pushing for a measure establishing Adopt-a-Library program.
In her Senate Bill 874 or the proposed Adopt-a-Library Act, Poe stressed the Philippines has started to embrace alternative modes of education in recent years.
In fact, the senator added, one of the main advocacies of the Department of Education is the expansion of alternative learning system.
The measure seeks to ride the recent wave of reforms by introducing an Adopt-a-Library program.
This aims to encourage self-learning by constructing libraries across different local government units, public elementary and secondary schools, and State Universities and Colleges.
Based on the measure, the libraries will be provided with educational materials such as encyclopedias, dictionaries, maps, and globes.
The libraries shall also be provided with at least five computers and a working internet connection.
