GILAS STILL DECIDING WHETHER OR NOT TO PLAY AS A GUEST TEAM IN PBA

Gilas Pilipinas being barred from the restrictions of traveling and training abroad due to pandemic led them to a possibility in accepting the invitation of PBA to play in the next season’s All-Filipino squad.

Commissioner Willie Marcial averred that the national team is preparing for its star-studded June to compete in the FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers and the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament.

With such busy schedules and limited time for training, playing in PBA still stands in the favor of the league.

Mga ilang games lang sila. Siguro mga eight to 10 games lang, or baka lesser pa,” Marcial assured.

Hindi ito yung katulad ng gusto natin na mabuo nila at puwede silang mag champion. Parang silip lang sila. Mga ilang games lang, yun ang sabi sa amin,” he added.

Nonetheless, Marcial affirmed that Gilas Pilipinas will always be welcome to join the league and is ready to adjust the schedule to be at par with the national team.

“We want them to compete as a regular team and have an opportunity to win the championship,” Marcial said.

“Double or triple header kasi malalaman natin kung makakapag-practice na sa atin ang Gilas na kahit na ilang mga games. So yun, ia-adjust natin [ang schedule],” he propounded.

And if all things go according to the plan, PBA will have a total of 13 teams including the Gilas.

But as of now, Gilas training pool is focusing on their resumed bubble training in Calamba, Laguna.
