RED CROSS FEEDS MALABON KIDS, ELDERLY
THE PHILIPPINE Red Cross provided warm and nutritious meals to children and elderly residents of Barangay Niugan, Malabon City through its Hot Meals on Wheels program.
“With challenges to malnutrition, hunger, and food insecurity experienced by children and the elderly due to the pandemic, it is important that we continue to boost our efforts to address all the health and nutrition needs of the people,” said PRC Chairman and CEO Senator Dick Gordon in a statement.
By the end of the feeding activity, the Malabon Chapter provided meals serving chicken, eggs, and rice to 150 beneficiaries.
The PRC has 23 Hot Meals on Wheels food trucks equipped with kitchens that can prepare 100 meals per hour or 800 meals in an 8-hour operation.
As of February 3, 2022, the humanitarian organization has served meals for 114,463 individuals since the beginning of the pandemic.
In a report by the United Nations, 59 million Filipinos experienced food insecurity even before the pandemic.
Over the past two years, the pandemic exacerbated the hunger crisis as the virus seriously affected the agriculture sector.
