LAWMAKERS SEEK TO AMEND LAW PROTECTING YOUNG WORKERS
SEVERAL lawmakers filed a measure that aims to amend the law that protects children from abuse and exploitation.
House Bill 10235 was filed by Reps. Christopher de Venecia, Angelo Marcos Barba, Deogracias Victor Savellano, Marlyn Alonte, Aloy Lim, Kristine Singson-Meehan. Ma. Lourdes Arroyo, Ann Hofer, Manuel Sagarbarria, Ronnie Ong, Lianda Bolilia, John Reynald Tiangco, Angelica Natasha Co, Alfred delos Santos, Anthony Peter Crisologo, Vilma Santos-Recto, Juan Miguel Macapagal Arroyo, Rufus Rodriguez, Sarah Jane Elago, Joy Myra Tambunting, Sandra Eriguel, Luisa Lloran Cuaresma, Florida Robes, Rosanna Vergara, Dan Fernandez and Alfred Vargas.
The measure aims to provide a uniform time in which children are not allowed to work.
The lawmakers, in their explanatory note, said that under the present law, there is a disparity between the prohibited working times of chidren under 15 years of age and those between the ages of 15 and 18.
Those under 15 may not work between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. whereas those between 15 and 18 may not work between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.
Under HB 10235, all minors will not be allowed to work from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.
The lawmakers said there are many regulations in place which facilitate the work done by minors.
These include the requirement of a work which should be renewed yearly.
