LAWMAKER WANTS NATIONAL TEACHERS’ DAY A SPECIAL NON-WORKING HOLIDAY
Pangasinan 3rd District Rep. Rose Marie Arenas filed a measure declaring October 5 of every year a special non-working holiday to commemorate National Teachers’ Day.
House Bill 8989 seeks to amend Republic Act 10743 or An Act Declaring Fifth Day of October of Every Year as the National Teachers’ Day.
Arenas explained that teachers and educators play a vital role not only in shaping the lives of the students but also in nation-building by molding the characters and personality of youth and future leaders.
“Teachers provide the power of education, especially to the youth, thereby giving them the possibility for a better future,” Arenas said in her explanatory note.
“To truly commemorate that special day for teachers, this bill proposes to declare the fifth day of October of every year a special non-working holiday in the entire country,” she added.
Arenas stressed that teachers and educators shall have the opportunity to rest from their usual classroom workload and routine.
House Bill 8989 also emphasizes the participation of the entire country to dedicate a special non-working holiday for honoring teachers and recognizing the lasting contributions they make.
