LAWMAKER SEES NEED TO ESTABLISH ONE MORE TESDA DISTRICT OFFICE IN DAVAO
SENATOR Imee Marcos is pushing for a measure establishing a Technical Education and Skills Development Authority district office in Davao City.
In filing Senate Bill 1967, Marcos said in Region XI, the TESDA Provincial Office of Davao del Sur also covers the City of Davao.
However, due to the increasing population of Davao, the senator said TESDA cannot accommodate all its clients due to lack of personnel, sheer volume of clients, and the geographical size of the service area of provincial offices.
“To address this, the bill seeks to establish a separate TESDA District Office in Davao City which shall provide Technical Vocational Education Training services for the people of the city,” Marcos said in her explanatory note.
She added Davao City is now a highly urbanized city, which need to be catered separately from the provincial office based in Digos, Davao del Sur.
To date, there are 113 registered Private Technical Vocational Institutions and three Public TESDA Training Institutions with 504 registered programs/qualifications and 33 accredited Assessment Centers with 224 accredited programs.
