LAWMAKER EYES LEGAL EDUCATION FOR YOUTH
ISABELA 5th District Rep. Faustino Michael Dy III wants to incorporate legal education in Basic and Higher Education.
Dy filed House Bill 706 or the proposed Youth Legal Education Act to ensure that children are equipped with this vital knowledge as they go through life and become responsible citizens.
“Our children are irreplaceable jewels who should be accordingly valued,” Dy said in his explanatory note.
The measure mandates the teaching of law topics from grade school to college in public or private schools that should be included in the Social Studies or Araling Panlipunan subjects.
It also tasks the Department of Education and the Commission on Higher Education to ensure that the youth are well aware of their rights, duties and obligations towards their fellow men, and the penalties and remedies for violations of those rights.
Supplemental materials shall be provided to the scheduled revision of textbooks to include the concerned topics.
