HOUSE PANEL APPROVES RESOLUTION CALLING FOR EXPANDED CHED FOREIGN SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
THE COMMITTEE on Higher and Technical Education at the House of Representatives has approved and endorsed to the plenary a resolution urging the Commission on Higher Education to implement an expanded foreign scholarship and training program.
House Resolution 2416 was introduced by Representatives Juan Fidel Nograles and Mark Go.
The lawmakers said while promoting scholarships, training programs, and further studies abroad, the government must also ensure that there are streamlined return service structures, progressive rules and regulations for the implementation of the programs and a conducive environment for research so that the country will benefit directly from the investments.
“The government must undertake a government-led funding strategy for a foreign scholarship and training program for Filipino students and professionals as an economic investment aimed at producing globally competitive experts with the capability to leapfrog the economy and transform the Philippines into an upper middle-income country,” Nograles and Go said in their resolution.
The lawmakers stressed that with a coherent international education strategy, Filipino scholars will not only gain technical skills abroad but will imbibe the different values and worldview of foreign institutions, which will contribute to the deepening of the country’s relationship with other countries.
They noted that CHED will also need additional budget to improve and expand its
scholarship and training programs.
