HOUSE APPROVES SUMMER YOUTH CAMP ACT
THE HOUSE of Representatives on Tuesday approved a measure that will create Summer Youth Camps in every barangay.
The lawmakers approved on third and final reading House Bill 9825 or the proposed Summer Youth Camp Act.
The approved measure was a substitute bill for House Bill 1815 which was originally authored by Representative Rogelio Pacquiao of Sarangani Province.
The measure mandates the Sangguniang Kabataan of respective local government units to conduct summer youth camp in every barangay. It also mandates the SK to spearhead the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the summer youth camps in their respective jurisdictions.
The SK is also tasked to develop course modules on national situationer, leadership seminar, writing workshop, public speaking, sports and fitness, mental wellness, digital skills, entrepreneurship, livelihood and cultural awareness.
This activity aims to inculcate a sense of social responsibility, ingrain patriotism in the consciousness of the youth, develop youth leadership, engage in livelihood and entrepreneurship activities, and promote active participation in sports.
Once enacted into law, the budget for the Summer Youth Camp shall be included in the annual appropriations of the SK in accordance with the SK Reform Act of 2015.
