HOUSE APPROVES ON 2ND READING BILL EXTENDING PRC ID VALIDITY TO FIVE YEARS
THE HOUSE of Representatives has approved on second reading a measure seeking to extend the validity of Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) identification cards from three years to five years.
Former House Speaker and Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez, principal author of House Bill No. 8876, said the proposal aims to lessen the financial burden and inconvenience faced by Filipino professionals due to frequent license renewals.
Currently, the Professional Identification Card (PIC) issued by the PRC is valid for only three years.
Under the proposed measure, extending the validity period to five years would allow professionals to focus more on their careers, livelihood, and public service rather than repeatedly going through the renewal process.
Romualdez emphasized the vital role of teachers, nurses, engineers, architects, accountants, and other professionals, whom he described as key contributors to the Philippine economy.
He added that the bill would not only make the renewal process more efficient and convenient, but would also help reduce bureaucratic red tape in the issuance and renewal of Professional Identification Cards.
