HOUSE APPROVES MEASURE DECLARING OCTOBER AS NATIONAL ESPORTS MONTH
THE HOUSE of Representatives has approved a measure declaring the month of October of every year as National Esports Month.
The lawmakers has approved on third and final reading House Bill 10522 or the proposed National Esports Month.
The measure mandates the Department of Education to include esports as a demonstration sports in the Palarong Pambansa.
Under the measure, the Philipine Information Agency shall ensure the effective dissemination of information and activities during National Esports Month.
During the deliberation of the measures, lawmakers agreed that it is the duty of the State to promote physical education and encourage sports programs, league competitions and amateur sports, including training for international competition.
This is to foster self-discipline, teamwork, and excellence for the development of a healthy and alert citizenry.
At the same time, the State also recognizes the influence of technology in the evolution of modern sports and the future of athletic competitions.
The measure also aims to transform the culture of traditional athletic sports intertwined with digital sports that resonates with the younger generation who have been born and are growing up in the digital age.
“Kinakailangan nating pagyamanin ang disiplina sa sarili, pagkakaisa, at kahusayan ng ating mamamayan para sa pagkakaroon ng isang malusog at alertong sambayanan,” one lawmaker noted.
Recognizing the role of technology in modern sports, the measure also aims to blend traditional athletics with digital sports, appealing to the tech-savvy younger generation.
