GOV’T URGED TO PAY TUITION OF STUDENTS IN PRIVATE SCHOOLS

THE FEDERATION of Associations of Private Schools and Administrators appealed to the government to pay the unpaid tuition of students enrolled in private schools to prevent their closure.
FAPSA chairperson Eleazardo Kasilag said there are students allowed to enroll in private schools but parents are delinquent in keeping their obligation to pay.
“There are those students who were allowed to enrol even without paying the fees. While there are justifying reasons, however, schools can not exempt them from their financial obligations,” he said.
“Now, if they are about to graduate and the bills heap up, schools should go to the local government unit or any government agency for that matter and expectedly, the government agency shall come to their rescue by paying the fees,” Kasilag added.
The group held consultations with Rep. Roman Romulo over the weekend where the latter said that the problem is not the fault of students.
Roman is the chairman of the committee on basic education and culture of the House of Representatives.
“That is a consensus. The policy has been clarified that exams shall not be hindered owing to non-payment of tuition fee, and schools can hold of all records even not allowing students with accounts to graduate,” Kasilag said.
The government, he said, should exert the maximum assistance for the benefit of the students.
“There were several sponsors and each representative is aware of the sensitive situation of private schools. They initiated to include the accountability of parents to avoid the abuse of the law,” Kasilag said.
