GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP EDUCATION MUST BE A PRIORITY — BRIONES
EDUCATION Secretary Leonor Briones said that educating learners to be global citizens should be a priority of the education sector.
“In our current situation, where we continue to battle the biggest challenge, we need to be involved more than ever. Our learners should be ready to be citizens of the world,” Briones said.
The Department of Education, through the International Cooperation Office, conducted the 4th learning series of the ICO-Korea-Philippines Teacher Exchange Programme to strengthen the Sustainable Development Goals in Global Citizenship Education.
It seeks to provide a forum for raising awareness of the SDGs as well as a call to action for teachers to engage in caring, participatory, relevant and responsive online learning and development opportunities.
The series also aims to share new and promising ideas on how to fully realize the potential of the four pillars of learning to support the SDGs and Global Citizenship, as well as how to leverage information and communications technology as a platform for online collaboration and learning.
“A global citizen is a member of the entirety of the human race and is prepared to act on what they believe in. A global citizen knows that they are a citizen of the world not only their countries, they know to engage, converse, and take part in solving the world’s greatest challenges,” ICO Director Margarita Consolacion Ballesteros said.
