FORMER DILG EXEC EMPHASIZES ROLE OF EDUCATION IN NATION-BUILDING
SENATORIAL aspirant and former Interior and Local Government Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr. announced on Sunday (03 Nov 2024) his commitment to championing student welfare if elected as a senator in the 2025 midterm elections.
Abalos noted that investing in education is essential for empowering the next generation and fostering a brighter future for the country.
“May kasabihan nga na ang kabataan ang pag-asa ng ating bayan, and this adage still rings true to this day. Our youth are the backbone of our nation, and it is our responsibility to ensure they have access to quality education, mental health resources, and opportunities for growth,” he said.
Abalos has joined the distribution of Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation payout to 800 beneficiaries including some students held at the Sulipan National High School in Apalit, Pampanga.
The beneficiaries received P5,000 each under the program.
In his speech, Abalos told the students that education is the great equalizer, emphasizing that he also came from humble beginnings but his education helped him to improve the lives of his family.
Abalos dared the student-beneficiaries to set clear goals and study hard so they can achieve their dreams.
In the Senate, he vowed to advocate for increased funding for public schools and universities, ensuring that every student has access to quality education regardless of their socio-economic background.
To alleviate the financial burden on families, Abalos also aims to expand scholarship programs and create more funding opportunities for students pursuing higher education, especially in underserved communities.
He also recognized the growing need for mental health support among students as he urged for intensified implementation of mental health programs in schools, providing students with necessary support and counseling services.
“I envision a Philippines where every student feels supported, valued, and empowered to pursue their dreams. If elected, I will work tirelessly to ensure that our education system nurtures the potential of every young Filipino,” Abalos said.
