EFFECTS OF CALAMITIES ON LEARNING WORRIES SENATOR
SENATE President Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri on Monday admitted that he is worried on the effects of calamities on the education of students.
Zubiri said majority of schools in Mindanao were either destroyed by Storm Paeng or used as evacuation centers.
The Senate President stressed the need to augment the fund of the Department of Education to enable it to rehabilitate schools.
The senator said he was open to the idea of creating evacuation centers so that schools will not be used as temporary shelters of calamity victims.
“Naantala ang mga estudyante. Katulad niyang back to school ang mga estudyante marami sa mga pinag-uusapan naming mga lugar, Maguindanao even some areas in Zamboanga area, schools are being utilized as evacuation center,” he added.
“So paano naman ang kabataan they are back to zero na naman pagdating sa edukasyon, lagpak na naman tayo sa proficiency examination. So I will suggest we have to come up with permanent evacuation centers particularly in these areas na natatamaan ng bagyo at natatamaan ng lindol,” Zubiri said.
