EDUCATION Secretary Leonor Briones reminded teachers to remain neutral in politics.
EDUCATION Secretary Leonor Briones reminded teachers to remain neutral in politics.
Briones said teachers are “forbidden” to support certain political parties or candidates in the coming elections.
“That is the bureaucracy sa [in the] government-neutrality. They are supposed to be neutral. We are expected to be neutral…we have several issuances on that,” the DepEd chief said.
She also cautioned teachers against sharing their political views on social media.
“Share their political views on media? No, because they are government employees… they should not identify themselves as teachers for they are not expected to do that for bureaucratic neutrality is the major principle,” Briones said.
Under DO 048, the Department of Education reminded its officials, both teaching and nonteaching, of the prohibition against electioneering and partisan political activity, citing that it is in violation of Article IX-B, Section 2(b), Paragraph 4 of the 1987 Constitution.
