DEPED TO OFFER BASIC LIFE SUPPORT TRAINING

/ 5 January 2022

THE DEPARTMENT of Education will soon begin offering Basic Life Support Training to students in basic education.

DepEd recently issued the Implementing Rules and Regulations for Republic Act 10871, also known as the “Basic Life Support Training in Schools Act,” which applies to all public and private schools, including Alternative Learning Systems learning centers.

Training programs developed by the Department of Health, the Philippine Heart Association, and the Philippine Red Cross will be part of the IRR.

“Life support training is a vital life skill that provides students with the knowledge of dealing with medical emergencies. A prompt and appropriate first aid can save a life and empowering our children with this basic skill could mean more lives can be saved in times of emergency or disaster,” Secretary Leonor Briones said.

Schools were encouraged to collaborate with other schools, Local Government Units, or government agencies and private organizations that have the provisions, facilities, and equipment to ensure the proper implementation of BLS training and programs as mandated by law.

“This could also provide BLS training to all DepEd personnel, especially to our Physical Education and Health teachers, to make them more efficient and effective in conducting BLS training to our learners,” Briones said.
