THE DEPARTMENT of Education has no plans to change the summer break to April to May, its spokesperson Michael Poa said.

“At the moment, there are no plans to revert,” Poa replied when asked if the department plans to move the summer break.

He said that school heads may suspend face-to-face classes if needed.

“As mentioned in a previous statement, school heads have the discretion to suspend in-person classes and immediately switch to ADM or Blended learning if the environment is not conducive to learning,” he said.

Talks of moving the summer break started when Senator Sherwin Gatchalian, chairman of the Senate Committee on Basic Education, said that the summer break should be reinstated from April to May after students in Laguna who were exposed to intense heat during a fire drill were taken to the hospital.

Reports said the students passed out due to heat, hunger and dehydration.
