DEPED LAUDS FIVE TEACHERS WHO SURVIVED BOAT SINKING
THE DEPARTMENT of Education lauded the dedication of five teachers and two volunteer teachers of the Hubo Elementary School in Magallanes, Sorsogon who survived a boat sinking incident early this month.
The teachers were on their way to school last May 3 when their boat sank.
Education Secretary Leonor Briones said the department provided financial assistance and psychosocial support to the teachers to help them deal with the trauma.
“In these trying times, we salute the passion of our teachers who continuously deliver education to their learners, wherever they are. In this regard, as our Filipino educators commit to their duty, we are dedicated to prioritize their protection against any potential harm,” she said.
Briones added that the Schools Division Office will replace the equipment lost by the teachers who were also given leave credits to fully recover.
“I also ordered Undersecretary Alain Del Pascua to share with them at least two laptops intended for the Last Mile Schools,” she said.
To further help teachers, Briones said DepEd will provide special hardship allowance for those exposed to extreme difficulties and hazards such as difficulty in commuting to work.
