THE DEPARTMENT of Education is in coordination with the local authorities for the conduct of a thorough investigation on the death of a Grade 5 student who fell into a septic tank.

“[W]e are monitoring the status of the four other classmates involved in the said accident,” DepEd said in a statement.

“School officials are already in coordination with the local government unit, for medical assistance and the conduct of psychological first aid to the affected learners,” it added.

According to reports, a 12-year-old victim died, while others were injured after falling into a septic tank inside the school campus on Monday.

Based on the initial investigation by the police, the students were sitting on a chair on top of the septic tank as they were eating lunch when the structure collapsed.
