/ 18 January 2025

THE DEPARTMENT of Education and the Department of Science and Technology have signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at boosting STEM education in the country.

DepEd announced that the partnership will span four years, focusing on key areas such as teacher training, curriculum development, student engagement, resource sharing, and data-driven research. These efforts aim to improve scientific literacy and foster innovation in basic education.

Education Secretary Sonny Angara and Science and Technology Secretary Renato Solidum Jr. led the signing of the MOU.

“This is a significant step in redeveloping the science and technology curriculum, enhancing learner engagement, and strengthening school networks and resources for research,” said Angara.

DepEd emphasized that the partnership prioritizes the development of Filipino students’ creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills while enhancing the professional capacities of STEM educators.

The initiative also includes learner development programs, scholarships, and mentoring opportunities, where DOST experts will directly engage with schools.

Meanwhile, DOST committed to deploying scientists and researchers as resource persons, developing teaching tools and platforms, and providing access to its facilities to further enhance STEM learning.
