CHED CHIEF BACKS REVIEW OF K TO 12 CURRICULUM
COMMISSION on Higher Education Commissioner Prospero De Vera III supported the order of President-elect Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to review the K to 12 curriculum.
COMMISSION on Higher Education Commissioner Prospero De Vera III supported the order of President-elect Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to review the K to 12 curriculum.
He said that a review will determine if the K to 12 program lived up to its promise of providing skills to graduates.
“CHED has already indicated its interest and the need to review the K to 12 program because I think, first, there is already enough time to do a review — usually, when a government program is implemented it is difficult to review it in the first one to two years because you don’t see the results yet,” De Vera said.
“Since the K to 12 started implementation right before the Duterte administration took over, we have the benefit of several years, so data is available and evaluation could be done,” he added.
De Vera further said that the CHED wants to know if K to 12 helped students develop the skills they seek, especially those that would help them grow in college.
“The current policy of the commission is that [a student] can enroll in any degree program at the university-level irrespective of the strand in high school. We had to adopt that policy because many students were actually not able to choose the strand they really wanted in senior high,” he said.
