2,400 STUDENTS GRADUATE TUITION-FREE AT UCC
NEARLY 2,500 students of the University of Caloocan City (UCC) completed their college education without paying tuition, as the city-run institution held its 52nd Commencement Exercises.
A total of 2,396 graduates received their diplomas during the ceremony, which was attended by local officials and featured Senator Paolo Benigno Aquino IV as guest of honor.
In his speech, Aquino highlighted that Caloocan had already been implementing free college education through City Ordinance No. 0553, Series of 2014—years before similar programs were rolled out at the national level.
The city government also recognized academic excellence among graduates. A total of 372 students who earned Latin honors and special distinctions received cash incentives, including ₱10,000 for magna cum laude awardees and ₱5,000 for cum laude recipients. The incentives were distributed during a separate recognition ceremony.
Dale Gonzalo Malapitan extended his congratulations to nearly 3,000 Batch 2026 graduates, including those from graduate programs.
He commended not only the students but also their families and teachers for their continued support throughout their academic journey.
Addressing the graduates, Malapitan assured them of the local government’s continued support as they pursue their chosen careers.
“My dear graduates, whatever profession you pursue and whatever career decisions you make in the future, you can count on the city government to continue supporting you in achieving your dreams,” he said.
