XAVIER U TIES UP WITH AYALA FOUNDATION TO PROMOTE VOTER EDUCATION
THE XAVIER University and the Ayala Foundation, Inc. formalized their partnership to educate young voters ahead of the national elections.
The two institutions will implement the “Maging Magiting” Voters’ Education campaign that aims to promote the value of voting and inspire young people to act positively.
“Voters’ education is crucial in our present time, given the many young voters comprising 52% of the total qualified voters in the country,” XU President Fr. Mars Tan said.
“Many young voters do not want to exercise their right to vote, because they do not see the connection between voting and good governance in our country,” he added.
Rechelle Barraquias, Development Communication chairperson, pointed out that the initiative will be critical in addressing the issue of information, especially on social media.
“Now is the time to call for a more valiant, courageous voting public . Courageous and brave not only to be critical voters, but one that also speaks and stands for the truth-veritas-from the motto of Xavier University: Veritas liberabit vos,” Barraquias stressed.
Meanwhile, AFI Senior Director for Social Development Joanna Duarte expressed hope for the partnership.
“We are excited to be allies in this project to provide accessible and verifiable information, helping our citizens in voter education, as well as to encourage them to go out and vote,” Duarte said.
