USTP STUDENTS AND FACULTY MEMBERS OBTAIN DIVER CERTIFICATION FROM CMAS

/ 6 July 2023

MARINE Biology students and faculty members of the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines Panaon obtained diver certification from the Confédération Mondiale des Activités Subaquatiques, a worldwide underwater federation, to advance their skills.

Ten students earned certification as 1-star divers and one was conferred with a 2-star advanced diver certification.

Meanwhile, marine biologist instructors Mark Arcilla and Charlemagne Recente refreshed their training to obtain the 2-star advance and 2-star rescue certification.

The certifications will allow them to progress further and work towards the 3-star accreditation.

“The SCUBA diving class enhances the student’s practical skills and hands-on experience in marine biology. Students also get to explore the underwater world through SCUBA diving, helping them better understand marine ecosystems,” USTP said.

The university said the course allows students to apply their academic knowledge in real-world settings and develop a stronger connection with the marine environment.

“The USTP Panaon provides students with theoretical knowledge and practical diving abilities by integrating SCUBA diving into the curriculum. Through this, students can conduct research, surveys, and conservation initiatives more effectively,” the school said.

“This addition demonstrates the campus’ commitment to offering a comprehensive education that prepares students for a career in marine biology. By combining experiential learning with theoretical knowledge, the USTP Panaon equips students with the necessary skills and experiences to excel in the field,” it added.
