UP STUDENT PRAISED FOR OBTAINING ‘FLAT UNO’

A FRESHMAN from the University of the Philippines caught the attention of netizens for obtaining a general weighted average of 1.0 or ‘flat uno’.

Sachika Azumi Saguisa, a chemical engineering student, gained admiration online after Gabay Isko organization posted her impressive grade for Academic Year 2020-2021.

The post has so far garnered 118,000 likes, 44,000 shares and 5,800 comments.

Saguisa said she did not expect to get the highest grade.

“To be honest, I didn’t expect it at all, but I was hopeful. I felt like I had a chance kasi alam ko naman how hard I worked for those grades,” she said.

Saguisa was included in the Top 10 in elementary. In senior high school, she graduated with highest honors in STEM and ABM strand at the Caraga Regional Science High School.

She said that keeping an eye on her mental health and getting enough sleep were the keys to her achievement.

“I focused on my mental health. Mahirap mag-function when you are mentally exhausted. I try to sleep as early as possible para hindi tuluyang masira ang body clock ko. I try to communicate with my teachers din within office hours,” she said.

The 19-year-old said she aims to get higher grades because she wanted to increase her chances of entering medical school.

“I will be pursuing medicine after my engineering degree. It took me a while to discover my passion for medicine, but it is never too late! As much as I enjoy solving problem sets, I see myself working in the medical field,” she said.
