THE UNIVERSITY of the Philippines has lifted the rules and policies it implemented because of the pandemic including the no-fail policy.
A memorandum issued by the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs said the decision was made as colleges and universities transition to face-to-face classes.
The OVPAA said the regular load for undergraduate students is back to 15 units, and the academic delinquency and program retention rules will once again be implemented.
“After due deliberation, the PAC (President’s Advisory Council) approved the following policies, affirming its position that as the National University, UP is committed to exerting every effort to ensure that its Iskolars ng Bayan – the country’s future leaders in different branches of knowledge and agencies- possess the competence, grit, and agility to overcome adversities, thrive… while giving due consideration to the difficult circumstances of individual students on a case-to-case basis as practiced in the ‘old normal,’” it said.
The new policy will take effect on the first semester of Academic Year 2022-2023.
For two years, the university implemented a no-fail policy as part of its effort to the challenges posed by distance learning.
Rules on retention, academic delinquency, and maximum residence will also be suspended. There were also reading breaks, leniency in academic requirements, as well as optional attendance in synchronous classes.
On Monday, the Commission on Higher Education Chairman Prospero De Vera said that all the schools that adopted face-to-face classes prior to the pandemic are going to use full face-to-face for the coming academic year.
