UP-DILIMAN COMMUNITY BARS GROUPS INVOLVED IN ‘RED-TAGGING’
THE UNIVERSITY of the Philippines-Diliman community on Friday said it will not allow groups and individuals involved in the ‘’red-tagging’ of personalities and groups to hold events inside the campus.
UPD University Student Council Chairperson Froilan Cariaga said these organizations were dangerous.
“UP has been hounded by the Duterte government’s malicious red-tagging for years,” Cariaga said in a statement.
“They would never be allowed inside the university’s premises, as they only mean to endanger the progressive youth and community members,” he added.
UP Rises Against Tyranny and Dictatorship Convenor Aldrin Nera said groups and individuals who red-tag personalities and organizations aim to quash any dissent and force them into silence.
“They have been mobilizing police inside the campus, taking pictures of students and staff, and going against the UP-DND Accord,” Nera said.
Anakbayan UPD spokesperson Ajay Lagrimas said the students have the right to “organize for democratic rights such as accessible education.”
Earlier this year, UPD Chancellor Fidel Nemenzo said the university will not allow ‘red-tagging’ personalities.
