UNIVERSITY OF CALOOCAN CITY STUDENT GROUP SEEKS DEFERMENT OF CLASS OPENING
THE SUPREME Student Council of the University of Caloocan City asked the school to delay the opening of classes.
A report from TNC of the North, UCC’s official student publication for its north campuses, said that the university scheduled the opening of Academic Year 2021-2022 on August 16, 2021.
The SSC appealed to the Vice President for Academic Affairs Atty. Roderick Vera to move the opening of classes.
“Insisting on opening classes immediately will only exacerbate the negative effects of remote learning on students’ mental health; therefore, the UCCIANS [UCC students] call for a movement in the opening of classes,” the group said.
It cited the result of a survey conducted by the SSC which showed that the majority of the students are not yet prepared for the opening of classes.
“As students and their families continue to recuperate from the oppressive effects of the pandemic, it is more important than ever that the University upholds the compassion for which it is known. This should be accompanied by the recognition that education is a lifelong commitment that must be made to all students, regardless of their socioeconomic position,” the group said.
