UNIVERSITY OF BAGUIO STUDENTS SEEK TUITION HIKE TRANSPARENCY
STUDENT groups from the University of Baguio called on school officials to explain the increase in tuition and other fees for Academic Year 2020-2021.
In a letter to Johann Ben Bautista, UB’s vice president for Finance, the school’s Supreme Student Council lamented that the excess fees are unnecessary in distance learning.
The group urged school officials to release a detailed breakdown and description of fees.
“On behalf of the students of UB, the SSC is humbly writing to your good office with regard to our concerns about the fees that were added in our miscellaneous such as the Admission Fee, Communication Fee and Online Registration Fee, that the aforementioned council finds expensive and some, might be unnecessary,” the group said.
The SSC lamented that the university increased miscellaneous fees without consulting the students.
“The SSC is aware that we share a commitment to accountability, transparency, and openness in the university. Hence, as we are in the middle of our Short Term period, we must take strong action on the concerns of the students,” the group said.
