UE STUDENTS SEEK SCRAPPING OF UNNECESSARY FEES
REPRESENTATIVES of student groups in the University of the East-Manila on Tuesday asked school officials to stop collecting fees they deemed unnecessary under a distance learning setup.
In a letter addressed to UE President Ester Garcia, the University Student Council enumerated several fees that should not be collected.
These include energy fee, health service fee, student accident insurance fee, library fee and surcharge fee. They said these fees should be lessened to 2-3 percent.
The students also recommended a P700 miscellaneous fee reduction.
“All the aforementioned fees, if cannot be justified, should be reduced or completely eradicated from the collection of tuition fee,” the USC said.
“The students should also be made aware of how to use or avail the said fees if reduced or retained,” it added.
The student representatives also asked the administration to improve its services. They said the school should address some issues from last semester such as monitoring of academic load and activities by professors and providing more flexible learning options.
“The council will continue to monitor and ensure that the services and quality of education provided by the administration must be justified and experienced by the students throughout the academic year,” USC President Justine Jae Calatong said.
