THE COLLEGE of Arts and Sciences of the University of the East-Manila will no longer accept new enrollees for four programs for Academic Year 2021-2022.

These are Mathematics, Library and Information Science, Journalism, and English.

The Dawn, the school’s publication, reported that low enrollment was the reason given by CAS Dean Justina Evangelista behind the decision to stop accepting new students.

It said Evangelista gave assurances that students enrolled in these four programs will be allowed to finish their degrees.

“The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year students will be retained until they finish their respective degree programs,” Evangelista said.

The CAS Student Council expressed its dismay on the decision of the university.

In a letter to UE President Ester Garcia and Evangelista, the group said that these programs “contributed to the University’s mileage of producing a roster of exceptional students.”

“The preemptive decision made by the University is disturbing, leaving affected students uninformed and confused on what is going to happen next,” it added.

The council asked if students who were forced to stop amid the pandemic will be allowed to enroll and if the faculty members in the four programs will be terminated.

The group appealed to the school officials to reconsider their decision.
