UE ALUMNA RECIPIENT OF US CPA EXAM AWARD

AN ALUMNA of the University of the East was one of the recipients of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants’ Elijah Watt Sells Award for 2021.

Lorena Magsombol Carpina, a certified public account, was one of the 57 candidates and the only Filipino who met the criteria to receive the award.

The award is given to US CPA exam candidates who obtain a cumulative average score of above 95.50 across all four sections of the US Uniform CPA examination, pass all four sections on their first attempt, and complete testing within 2021.

Carpina graduated Magna Cum Laude in April 2012 under the Bachelor of Science in Accountancy and Computer-based Accounting Systems program.

She worked as an Audit Staffer at Punongbayan & Araullo, one of the leading accounting firms in the country and a member firm of Grant Thornton International Limited.

She rose from the ranks and concluded her P&A stint as an Audit Manager in December 2017.

In January 2018, she worked at KPMG Lower Gulf Limited in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Carpina transferred to Grant Thornton LLP New York City in May 2019 and progressed to Audit Senior III in 2021.

Currently, she is working at Grant Thornton’s Metropark Office in Iselin, Neiw Jersey.

Moreover, she took and passed the US Uniform CPA Examination and has active licenses for both the US states of New York and New Jersey.

The Elijah Watt Sells Award was established by AICPA in 1923.
