SENATOR Francis Tolentino on Sunday led the opening ceremony of the 2024 ROTC Games Visayas Regional Qualifying Leg in Bacolod City.

The event, held at the Panaad Stadium marks the beginning of a week-long competition showcasing the skills and dedication of Reserve Officers’ Training Corps or ROTC cadets from across the country.

Tolentino, a staunch advocate for youth development and national defense, delivered an inspiring keynote address, emphasizing the importance of physical fitness, discipline, and leadership among the nation’s future military leaders.

The opening ceremony featured a parade of cadets, a ceremonial lighting of the torch, and cultural performances reflecting the rich heritage of Bacolod City and the surrounding region.

The senator was joined by key military officials, local government representatives, and esteemed guests, who expressed their support for the ROTC program and its vital role in national security.

The 2024 ROTC Games will see cadets competing in various sports and military drills, including track and field, swimming, arnis, basketball, boxing, kickboxing, volleyball, target shooting, and raiders competition.

Tolentino also took the opportunity to commend the organizers, the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the Department of National Defense, the Commission on Higher Education, the Philippine Sports Commission, and the City of Bacolod for their hard work and dedication in making the event possible.

“The ROTC games will be considered the games of respect and patriotism”, Tolentino said.

The Visayas qualifying leg will run from May 26 to June 1.

The Mindanao qualifying leg is scheduled to take place in Zamboanga City from June 23 to 29, while the Luzon qualifying leg will be held in Indang, Cavite, from July 28 to August 3.

The national championships are slated for August 18 to 24, also in Indang, Cavite.
