UA&P PARTNERS WITH MERCURY DRUG CORP FOR SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
THE UNIVERSITY of Asia and the Pacific partnered with Mercury Drug Corporation in providing scholarship grant for college students.
MDC donated to the Dr. Placido L. Mapa, Jr. Scholarship Endowment, becoming the first platinum donor for the grant.
“MDC’s generous contribution to the Dr. Placido L. Mapa, Jr. Scholarship Endowment will give the University’s scholarship efforts a fresh boost. It will also further solidify MDC’s endeavor to support highly deserving Filipino youth in their studies,” the university said.
In 2022, the school launched the scholarship endowment for incoming college and junior college students with a high school average of at least 90%, possess exemplary leadership credentials and show potential to be trailblazers and catalysts for change.
Scholars will have free tuition and miscellaneous fees, a monthly stipend of P8,000, an internet allowance of P1,000 per month, a laptop, and one-on-one mentorship with a member of the UA&P Board of Trustees.
The scholarship endowment was established in honor of Dr. Placido L. Mapa, Jr., former chairman of the Center for Research and Communication and its successor institution, UA&P.
An advocate of quality education, Mapa Jr. was the founding chairman of the Parents for Education Foundation, Inc.
He was also an accomplished economist and institution builder, having served, among others, as the second head of the National Economic and Development Authority, governor of the Development Bank of the Philippines, Alternate Executive Director for the Philippines of the International Monetary Fund; President of the Philippines Economic Society and chairman of the board and president of Metrobank.
