SILLIMAN U STUDENTS CHAMPIONS IN NAT’L CASE ANALYSIS TILT
BUSINESS Economics students of Silliman University were the champions in the inter-university case analysis competition at the National Economic Summit 2023 held earlier this month.
The Visayas State University placed second while the University of the Philippines Los Baños ranked third.
Argielyn Kate Vergaño, Yuan Ceagor Raquel, Brent Jacob Augusto, Emmanuel Labrador and Ken Joseph Ong bested 13 other teams from universities nationwide.
Vergaño said the key to winning the case analysis competition “was finding an opportunity in the complexity of the challenge.”
“Competing with students from leading universities in the country is a stepping stone for us to gain momentum in believing in our capabilities and the people who support us,” she said.
Ong said he learned the importance of communication in teamwork.
“We were interactive in our ways. We approached the case before us in a way we could understand both economic theory and policy analysis. We learned that economics, politics, and personalities are often inseparable,” he added.
SU College of Business Administration dean Asst. Prof. Rene Rafael Juntereal mentored the students.
“Our goal is to shape our business students into trailblazers in their respective fields as innovators, game changers, and ethical leaders in business,” SU quoted Juntereal as saying.
“To achieve this, we must make students competitive and relevant in today’s world by exposing them to case study competitions, research paper conferences, and other such events that will sharpen their analytical thinking,” he added.
