FORMER and present students of the Honorato C. Perez Sr. Memorial Science High School have demanded accountability from the school administration for its reported failure to act on the alleged sexual harassment reports against certain ‘rude’ students, ‘indecent’ teachers and staff, including ‘nasty’ alumni of the same school.

The hashtag #HCPSMSHSDoBetter has gained traction in the social media as several students went on Twitter barrage against what appeared to be an obvious apathy of the school officials toward the growing safety concern of the victims and their families.

According to Abby, not her real name, the issue started after an alumnus had exposed in a social media account the alleged harassment reportedly committed by the students of HCPSMSHS who tweeted sexual innuendos about the viral photos of certain Montano and Cruz sisters.

Following the Twitter expose on the alleged distasteful conduct toward the Montano and Cruz sisters, more alleged victims of sexual harassment from HCPSMSHS and other schools have reportedly come forward with their own stories, which allegedly included verbal insults, body touch and threats of lawsuit and physical harm.

Abby said that in some cases, the parents of those identified alleged offenders have threatened with lawsuit the sexual harassment victims who exposed their sons in the Twitter.

This developed as hundreds of concerned students in the city have launched what they called the Alyansa ng Kabataang Mag-aaral (AKM) Facebook page to help collate data and stories of sexual harassment to be filed before the school administration and appropriate authorities.

At the same time, the AKM has issued a statement regarding its stand on the controversy. Its leaders also asked the school administrators for a dialog for them to air their grievance.

The Envirex, the official student publication of HCPSMSHS, on the other hand, has slammed the school administration over reports that some of its so-called callous officials were blaming the victims of sexual harassment for their unfortunate experiences.

“Not only does this line of thinking tolerates the harassers, but it also an attempt to silence the victims from speaking up about what they went through,” the school paper said in a statement. “To the victims who’ve spoken up and to those who are still unable to find their voice, we stand with you,” The Envirex added.

The POST has tried to get the side of the concerned school officials, but they have yet to reply as of posting time.
