STUDENTS of the Taguig Science High School took to social media to deplore the silence of the school administration on allegations of sexual harassment involving teachers and students.
A whistleblower on Twitter claimed that a group chat of male students from TagSci was exposed on social media sexually harassing and cross-sending pictures of their female colleagues and teachers.
A whistleblower posted on Twitter screenshots of a group chat of male TagSci male students swapping images and sexualizing their female classmates and teachers
The whistleblower added that there were also reports of professors sexually harassing students during online classes.
“Don’t get me started on our principal,” the student added.
“Now, they’re trying to silence us by taking screenshots of those tweeting about this…our teachers would ALWAYS tell us to be careful with what we tweet because they see us…” the student posted on Twitter.
Using the #TagSciDoBetterNow campaign, several alumni of the school also came forward on social media, citing a similar story on the TagSci’s inaction on harassment cases in the school.
Some of them questioned the school’s ‘light’ punishment for sexual harassment cases which is only 1-day suspension and community service.
The TagSci’s Supreme Student Government also denounced the administration’s inaction on sexual harassment cases and demanded that school officials go after those involved.
“We will not be silenced as we seek sanctions of the perpetrators. We will forever ensure an institution that is a safe place for its constituents. We do not tolerate the admin’s justification for these lewd acts for the school’s reputation. Along with the students and alumni, we demand a transparent due process to hold these harassers accountable!” The TagSci supreme student government said on Facebook.
The alumni association-Class of 2020 also joined the call and denounced the school’s lack of accountability in handling of sexual harassment cases.
“We, from the Taguig Science High School Alumni Association — Batch 2020, firmly condemn the lack of accountability and transparency of the Taguig Science High School administration in its handling of the recent sexual harassment case involving their students,” the association said on Facebook.
Meanwhile, Kabataan Partylist Rep. Sarah Elago also urged the school to look into the reported sexual harassment cases.
“Heads, admins of education institutions have a duty to investigate cases and provide for the resolution, settlement, or prosecution of acts of sexual harassment in school. #TagSciDoBetterNow #tagscidobetter,” Elago said on Twitter.
The school has yet to issue a statement regarding the controversy.
