THE SAMAR State University is set to open its Samar Island Institute of Medicine next year to help produce more medical professionals in the region.

SIIM will be located at the College of Nursing and Health Sciences. Three rooms are being rehabilitated to be used as lecture room, anatomy laboratory and microbiology laboratory.

The SSU Board of Regents has approved the hiring of medical professors for SIIM.

“With the commitment to provide society with medical graduates who are professionally competent, socially responsive, collaborative and dedicated to life-long learning and self improvement, SIIM speaks true of its tagline: ‘My Community, My Classroom, My Responsibility,'” SSU said.

A total of 50 students will be admitted at the SIIM for its first year of operations.
