SAMAR STATE U LAUNCHES CHARITY HUB ON SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT

/ 27 May 2023

THE SAMAR State University launched a Charity/Goodwill Hub that aims to protect the environment through solid waste management.

The hub was conceptualized by Vice President for Administration and Finance Dr. Gina Españo and her team after their participation in the “Zero Trash Training: The 5RS Innovation of SSU in Environmental Management System” in Kamikatsu, Japan last year.

Inspired by the “kurokuro” store which means “circular/cycle/going round and round” in Japanese, the hub will feature items that are often deemed as “waste” but are useful to others.

It will also operate as a donation shop where products are given away for free to people who need them.

“Through the Charity Hub, we initiate the best solid waste management solution for we do not only protect mother earth, but we also recycle to care, and we reuse to spare,” SSU President Dr. Marilyn Cardoso said.

“Let’s build a sustainable program and nurture powerful values of charity and kindness,” she added.
