PLM STUDENT GROUPS SET OUT CONDITIONS FOR RESUMPTION OF F2F CLASSES

/ 9 May 2021

AN ALLIANCE of student groups from the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila published its recommendations for the planned resumption of face-to-face classes in the university over the weekend.

The Bukluran Student Alliance stressed in a posted message over social media that safety of students, teachers, and other university personnel should come first.

The alliance recommended that attendees must be fully vaccinated, have regular Covid19 testing, lodging for people who are from far areas, and medical assistance in case they contracted the virus.

The message was in reaction to the move of the Commission on Higher Education approving the conduct of limited face-to-face classes for medical courses at PLM on Tuesday.

“…it becomes practically necessary that the education of our future healthcare workers not be postponed. However, because our educational system has proven to be unsuitable for online learning, especially for technical and laboratory subjects, the opening of schools with limited face-to-face classes is required to ensure that nursing, physical therapy, and medical students’ technical knowledge is not jeopardized,” it said on Facebook.

“Nevertheless, given the circumstances, the health and safety of students, teachers, and other university personnel must take utmost precedence in the opening of limited face-to-face classes,” it added.

The students added their suggestions should be fully met in order to ensure the safety of the attendees.
