PHILIPPINE NORMAL U ADVISER FOR TEACHER EDUCATION COUNCIL
THE PHILIPPINE National University will be the new adviser of the Teacher Education Council.
Under Republic Act 11713 or the “Excellence in Teacher Education Act,” PNU will serve as the advisor of the council as it was designated as the National Center for Teacher Education under the Republic Act 9647.
The law aims to raise the quality of teachers and school leadership through policies that address challenges to quality education.
It will also provide a national leadership for promoting excellence as teacher education institutions are designed to have maximum impact on student learning, PNU President Bert Tuga said in his position paper.
“PNU supports the TEC to set out policies, develop and maintain standards and minimum requirements for teacher education, as well as monitor and quality assure processes for teachers, school leaders, and TEIs,” Tuga said.
“PNU likewise recognizes the functions and capacities of other education agencies… to implement policies and standards in teacher education that will be developed by the TEC,” he added.
PNU’s Research Center for Teacher Quality was part of the Technical Working Group for Teacher Quality that helped draft the new law.
The law was signed last Wednesday, April 27, 2022.
