LETRAN CONDEMNS MARTIAL LAW ATROCITIES

/ 21 September 2021

The Colegio de San Juan de Letran on Tuesday joined other groups and organizations in condemning the “atrocities” committed under Martial Law.

The school said those days should be remembered as a period of “darkness” in Philippine history.

President Ferdinand Marcos declared Martial Law on September 21, 1972.

“Today, September 21, International Day of Peace, we remember the injustices, human rights violations, and oppressive policies during the declaration of Martial Law, 49 years ago. We consider this period as one of the darkest chapters in Philippine history,” Letran said on Facebook.

“As one community, we cry, #NeverForget and #NeverAgain as we continuously pray and struggle for justice for all the victims,” it added.

Amnesty International claimed that under Martial Law, 70,000 people were imprisoned, 34,000 were tortured, and 3,240 were killed.
