LCCB STUDENT GOVT’S LAUNCH INSTITUTIONALIZED DONATION DRIVE

/ 18 November 2020

BACOLOD CITY – Three student governments of La Consolacion College Bacolod (LCCB) joined hands in helping the victims recently affected by several typhoons in Luzon as they initiated an institutionalized donation drive.

LCCB’s College Supreme Student Government (SSG), Senior High Student Government (SHSG), and Junior High Student Government (JHSG) launched “Community of Friends, Assemble!”, a community service project that aims to gather monetary and in-kind donations for the victims of Typhoon Quinta, Rolly and, Ulysses in Luzon.

The project is in coordination with Bulig Bacolod, a loose network of youth organizations in the city headed by the school’s alumnus John Albert Pagunsan, and the Pagbangon Project of the U.S. Government Alumni Association (USGAA) in Negros Oriental.

SSG President Schilona Gain Boco expressed their intention of providing assistance to the typhoon victims.

“Our school is known to be the Community of Friends. That is why we intended to provide assistance to the typhoon victims as an act of service, love, and compassion for our countrymen especially during this time of need,” said Boco.

With the city still being under the General Community Quarantine (GCQ) status, JHSG President Mikylla Bucabal explained that they resorted to digital and distance channels in financial donations to avoid physical contact during the donation drive.

“We recognize that there is still a pandemic. That is why we are utilizing modern technology in looking for alternatives wherein we can still lend a hand to our fellow Filipinos without compromising our safety and health,” Bucabal shared.

In-kind donations are still accepted in the donation drive as material donations are to be dropped off at the school premises.

Mr. Joselito M. Diaz, the school’s Office of the Student Activities and Services Head, expressed the institution’s gladness on the student governments’ initiative, saying the project reflects the Augustinian values and spirit inculcated to the students at school.

“The school is very much happy, and they really like the idea that the three student councils are collaborating right now. The Sisters’ Community is so happy with what the student councils are doing as they are showing that the Bayanihan Spirit is definitely within them,” Diaz added.

The school’s donation drive runs until November 28.
