LA SALLE STUDENTS APPEAL FOR TWO-WEEK BREAK

/ 17 November 2020

STUDENT groups at the De La Salle University System appealed for a two-week academic break following a series of disasters that hit the country.

One La Salle for Human Rights and Democracy, an alliance of student organizations, said students, professors, and school employees need to recover from the devastating crises.

“This calls for a two-week suspension of both synchronous and asynchronous classes with no graded requirements and the postponement of university activities, especially the collection of tuition and other fees,” the group said in a statement.

“Herewith, professors and school employees must not be deprived of their salaries and wages amidst the proposed academic break,” it added.

The group also called on the university to postpone the online undergraduate pre-enlistment scheduled on November 16 to November 20.

The alliance asked the Department of Education and the Commission on Higher Education to implement a “No Fail Policy” to show support to students greatly affected by the crises.

“We call on DepEd and CHED to implement a No Fail Policy nationwide, in order to alleviate the burden of students and to give more humane policy especially to students struggling since March,” the alliance said.

Around 20,600 students have so far signed the petition for an academic break.
