iACADEMY LAUNCHES NEW MUSIC PROGRAM

/ 21 April 2021

AUDIO and sound giants Avid and Dolby collaborated with iACADEMY to power the Makati-based school with their tools for learning.

The AB Music Production and Sound Design program of iACADEMY will provide an overview of the fundamental principles of music and sound alongside industry standard tools and training for its students.

During the launching event last Saturday, April 17, iACADEMY reiterated the importance of the program as it cited different career opportunities for students.

It said students can pursue careers such as producer, sound designer, systems engineer, field recordist, foley artist, musical director, audio auditor, and sound consultant.

“The program was designed to nurture the creative talents of the students and also to familiarize them with the latest digital technology needed to become a successful professional in their preferred area of specialization,” iACADEMY Professor Gerard Elviña said.

He said that the school was the first to be accredited by the Commission on Higher Learning to blend music and sound.

“We are also being supported by Avid and Dolby with the tools to be used in learning. We are proud to say that we have a 1:1 ratio for students per computer onsite (Avid Pro Tools) for learning, Elviña said.

Avid Technologies, founded in 1987, specializes in audio and video and non-linear editing systems.

It will provide iACADEMY with its Pro Tools (the industry standard for audio production) and curriculum as well as certifications for its students. Avid Technologies has worked closely with Dolby for years to provide an immersive experience with audio production.

“(Avid) Pro Tools can be used in such a wide variety of projects. Knowing how to use Pro Tools can give a student an edge when job hunting especially on proving his skills to a future employer,” Avid Learning Partner Manager for APAC Alex Brooke said.

Dolby, a company created in 1965 in London, is best known for being the pioneering experts in noise reduction systems as well as in audio encoding and compression.

“Dolby ATMOS is an immersive audio solution for the next generation which you can learn in iACADEMY,” noted Geoffrey Low, Content Engineer for Dolby.

Dolby will provide iACADEMY with curriculum review and integration, as well as access to various Dolby Atmos tools for students and faculty.

iACADEMY will start offering its music program in August 2021.
