HOLY ANGEL U STUDENTS SEEK CHED, LGU SUPPORT VS ANTI-STUDENT POLICIES

/ 23 January 2021

STUDENT GROUPS from the Holy Angel University in Pampanga asked the Commission on Higher Education to help them in their appeal to the school to accept promissory notes.

The students earlier decried the school’s new policy disallowing the use of promissory notes, saying that a significant percentage of students will not be able to enroll in the second semester because of this.

The students also aired their grievances on the overpriced laboratory fees for the second semester of Academic Year 2020-2021.

“The University Student Council has appealed to the administration to reconsider students’ pleas, particularly in extending enrollment schedule and the usage of promissory notes to ease the financial burden of the parents and students in enrolling for the second semester,” HAU-USC said in a statement.

The student body called on the university to be transparent and release a comprehensive breakdown of laboratory fees, waive unnecessary fees and publicize its allocations.

Early this month, students led by HAU Speak Now appealed to the governor and mayor of Angeles City to help them in their fight against the school’s “anti-student policies.”

On January 11, Angeles City Mayor Carmelo Lazatin Jr. responded to the students’ plea by sending a letter to HAU President Dr. Luis Ma. Calingo asking the school “to take the necessary actions to address the students’ concerns.”

But the students said that the university continues to ignore their appeals for transparency and leniency.

The POST tried but failed to get a statement from the university.
